Ryder Cup - Renting your property?

Ryder Cup - Renting your property?

Thu 21st May 2009

Are you considering renting your home during the Ryder Cup?

If the answer is Yes have you contacted your current insurer to clarify exactly what cover will be provided during the let?

If you have you will have probably have been told:-

Your insurance company will not offer any cover whilst your property is let

This will mean that during the let your property has no insurance in force.  Therefore should a fire start and cause damage you home your will not be covered

OR

Your insurers will continue cover on reduced perils excluding accidental damage and an additional premium is required.

In this instance basic perils are provided therefore if a fire started or storm occurred your current insurer would consider the loss.  However, losses usually insured under the “Accidental Damage” section of the policy would no longer be insured.

Underwood Insurance Services offer a policy that not only covers all usual perils; it also provides accidental damage whilst you rent your property for sporting events.  Loss of rent is also covered should your home (or part of it) become uninhabitable from damage occurring up to 2 weeks prior to the rental period

Some of the benefits of protecting your investment with a separate policy are :-

- Accidental damage on buildings and contents is included

- Loss of rent is covered

- Protects your no claims discount on your current policy if you have to make a claim

- Policy excess £100

- Accidental damage excess £250

- £2,000,000 liability protection
