Underwood Insurance 5 a side Football

Thu 8th Apr 2010

On Sunday the 24th March Underwood Insurance entered a team into a charity 5 a side tournament for Sport Relief at the Gol centre in Newport. The completion was made up of 18 sides representing local businesses and groups and raised just under £500 for this worthy cause.

The team managed to win all their group matches against some strong opposition and some not so strong  but the game was entered into in the sprit it was intended, with the exception of Stevie Welcher who still has to learn some manners when it comes playing against girls!

Underwood’s progressed to the semi final against African Stars a team with a definite age advantage over the Underwood’s team, losing narrowly by one goal, 3-2 despite a screamer of a goal from Murray James, widely regarded as the player of the tournament by many. The Underwood’s side were also a man down in this thrilling clash after losing Jeremy Nicholas not through injury but  his wife called and said his tea was ready!

The African Stars eventually went on to be worthy winners of the competition but had to go home straight after as some of them had school in the morning.

Another great display from a team representing Underwood Insurance and we all look forward to our next challenge and hopefully raise more money for worthy causes.

Well done boys.
